It has been three years since Mahindra first teased us with the “Born Electric” (BE) concepts in Oxfordshire, UK. While the sporty BE 05 grabbed headlines for its aggressive coupe looks, the Mahindra BE 07 sat quietly in the background, promising something the Indian market actually buys: practicality.
Fast forward to January 2026, and the BE 07 is finally here. Unlike its wilder sibling, the BE 05, this SUV is boxier, taller, and clearly aimed at the family man who wants the future but needs boot space. Launching at an aggressive Ex-showroom price of ₹25.99 Lakh, it lands right in the middle of a war zone occupied by the Tata Harrier EV and the Hyundai Creta EV.
The real truth is, Mahindra isn’t just selling an electric car here; they are selling a gadget on wheels. But does that fancy triple-screen dashboard distract you from the driving mechanics? Let’s find out.

2. EXTERIOR DESIGN & ROAD PRESENCE
The BE 07 ditches the curves of the XUV700 for a “Cyberpunk” aesthetic. It looks like it drove straight out of a sci-fi movie.
The Face: There is no grille. Instead, you get a sharp, aerodynamic nose with massive C-shaped LED DRLs that dominate the front fascia. It looks aggressive and robotic.
Side Profile: At 4.56 meters in length, it sits squarely between the Creta and the Harrier. The flush door handles and aero-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels give it a clean, slab-sided look.
The Rear: The rear is upright (unlike the sloping BE 05), which is great news for headroom. The connected tail-lamp bar mirrors the front DRL design.

Does it turn heads? Yes. In Bangalore traffic, auto-rickshaw drivers were stopping to ask if this was an imported Tesla. It has serious street cred.
3. INTERIOR, COMFORT & FEATURES
If you thought the exterior was futuristic, wait until you step inside.
The “Wall of Screens”: The dashboard is dominated by a pillar-to-pillar triple screen setup (totaling roughly 30 inches of display).
Driver’s Display: Crisp driving data.
Central Infotainment: Maps and Vehicle controls.
Passenger Screen: For media playback (YouTube/Netflix).
Material Quality: Mahindra has used sustainable materials. The fabric finish on the dashboard feels premium, though I worry about it catching dust in Indian conditions.
Space & Comfort: The flat floor (thanks to the INGLO skateboard platform) means the rear seat is genuinely spacious. Three adults can sit at the back without fighting for legroom.
The Glass Roof: The fixed panoramic glass roof is massive. It comes with high-UV protection, but in our 35°C afternoon test, the cabin did get warm. You will need to crank up the AC.

4. ENGINE PERFORMANCE & DRIVING DYNAMICS
We tested the RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) Long Range variant, which will be the volume seller.
City Drive: The instant torque is addictive. In “Eco” mode, the car feels docile and easy to park. The steering is light, making U-turns effortless.
Highway Stability: Switch to “Sport” mode, and the 228 BHP motor wakes up. Overtaking at 100 kmph is effortless. The car stays planted, thanks to the heavy battery pack lowering the center of gravity.
Ride Quality:The suspension absorbs potholes easily. Unlike the stiff-riding BE 05, the BE 07 is tuned for comfort. It glides over expansion joints, though you will hear a “thud” over sharp speed breakers due to the 19-inch wheels.
5. REAL WORLD MILEAGE (The Truth)
This is the most critical part of an EV review. Mahindra claims 525 km (WLTP). Here is the reality in Indian conditions:
City Traffic (AC On): We achieved 410 – 425 km. The regenerative braking works wonders in stop-go traffic.
Highway Driving (Steady 100 kmph): The range drops to 340 – 360 km. Aerodynamic drag eats into the battery at high speeds.
Charging: We plugged it into a 60kW DC charger (common on highways). It took 52 minutes to go from 10% to 80%.

The Winner: If you want pure range and futuristic tech, the Mahindra BE 07 wins hands down. The Harrier EV offers a tougher build, and the Creta EV is cheaper, but the BE 07 feels a generation ahead in terms of platform architecture.
7. FINAL VERDICT
The Mahindra BE 07 is the most “complete” electric SUV Mahindra has ever made. It balances the futuristic appeal of the BE series with the practical needs of an Indian family.
